The emphasis is on the word ‘Journey’. There are stages for everyone.
We will approach these asanas by working with specific techniques to strengthen the supporting muscles. The postures will be broken down and considered stage by stage. You will all find a stage you can work with and be given a path on which you can progress. The poses will be approached from a teaching perspective and the day involves pair and group work to give you the experience of taking individual students at different stages in their practice, further into the postures.
Zoe Knott has practised yoga for 30 years with many different teachers from a variety of traditions. She uses a combination of these styles in her own teaching. However one of the key areas of her teaching comes from a point of safety and Zoe has developed a style of working with strength in asana to protect the body from stress. A Teacher Trainer (DCT) for the Wheel, Zoe has also taken the additional BWY modules in Pranayama and Pregnancy and provides In Service Training around Great Britain.

The theme for this first Members’ Afternoon will be 'Strength in Adversity'. The postures we have chosen for this are Virabhadrasana I, II and III, each one being taught by a different person.
John Parry will start us off by introducing some of the history of Vira I. John will take us through a gradual warm up, preparing all the key parts of the body that will be working in Vira I – building the posture up from the bottom, i.e. feet, legs hips, trunk and arms, and also looking at the direction of the posture, breath and mental attitude. John will include some fun partner work as well.
Fenella Lindsell will focus on the beautiful alignment of Vira II by demonstrating the importance of the positioning of the feet, knees, hips and the shoulders and will identify how we can ensure that this is correctly done. We will also explore how incorrectly the posture can be done too and how people forget about what is behind them when focusing their attention on what is in front! We will also explore how the positioning of the shoulders can affect the posture by demonstrating a different alignment strategy.
And finally Yinka Fabusuyi will explore Vira III from a musculoskeletal structural point of view taking modifications for the less able as her approach to adversity. We will also be looking at postures, which build strength and stability, working towards being able to execute Vira III in full.
This promises to be a fun afternoon packed with variety and fantastic asana work.
This event will be taken by several different tutors / teachers.

The secrets of aging have eluded scientists for years, but recently one thing has become very clear, and this is the way that we age has more to do with how we live our lives than either the age we are or the genes we inherit. But what does that mean, and what do we need to do in order to look and feel our best as we move through middle life and beyond?
In this workshop we will discover how yoga, which is often referred to as the fountain of youth, has the ability to affect our aging process and can even help to reduce our biological age.
Using a combination of yoga and other respected techniques, this workshop aims not only to explore the physical effects of aging but also to explain the role of diet, as well as how the aging process can affect us psychologically including understanding the effects of what we call a 'midlife crisis'. The workshop is aimed at anyone who is interested in seeing how our real age has nothing to do with the candles on our birthday cake. Suitable for all levels and ages.
Howard Napper is one of the most innovative and ground-breaking yoga teachers in the UK. He has sold over 3.5 million yoga DVD’s in collaborations with well-known brands such as Kellogg’s, Special K, GMTV, Boots and WH Smith. Over the past years Howard has not only become known for his work with yoga but also on stress as well as the aging process. He has recently released a best selling app on stress and a DVD on aging with actress Glynis Barber.
